Passing of Harav Chanina Herzberg

We regret to inform you of the passing of HaRav Chanina Herzberg, zt”l, Menahel HaYeshiva, Yeshiva Toras Chaim Bais Binyamin at South Shore, beloved husband of Naomi Herzberg, beloved sister of Sharon Maslow. The funeral will take place at the Yeshiva, 1170 William Street, Hewlett at 10:30am. Burial will take place at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, NJ. Shiva will take place at the Herzberg residence, 1208 Cornaga Avenue, Far Rockaway, through Friday, December 21st.

IN MEMORIAM

My eldest son went to Yeshiva Toras Chaim/South Shore.  The tone of the yeshiva was of course set by the founder, Rabbi Binyamin Kaminetzky ZTL, one where the love of humankind, derech eretz was paramount.  Rabbi Herzberg continued to set that tone.

I remembered decades ago, when i entetered the Yeshiva, I didnt know where a classroom was.  I asked a student who was running by where the room was, and instead of pointing me to the room, he stopped in his track, walked me to the room, opening the lunchroom for me on the way.  I knew then what the Yeshiva was all about.

Rabbi Herzberg, ZTL, was always attentive to the needs of the students and parents.  Warm and attending.  The Yeshivah and community at large will miss him.  Yehay nishmato zirror b’zrror hachayim.
