Rivki: Welcome to Sephira

Welcome to Sephira

Rivki D. Rosenwald Esq., LMFT, CLC, SDS

Finally, a break. No holiday prep for a while.

Just Shabbases. Yay-We’ve got this!

A challah or 2, A nice kugel, a few veggies, a roast, a couple of cutlets, some fish to start and a fabulous desert -to finish it off and we are good to go!

Yet, who are we kidding, it’s basically the calm before the storm.

Shevuoth, Memorial Day, bar mitzvahs,

GRADUATIONS!!! Like how many more confectionary iced flowered cakes can we eat ?!

And WEDDINGS!!!!

There’s a doozy. You may not be cooking or hosting it but just getting there , takes a lot out of you.

First, just finding what to wear is hard enough; Then there’s the summer traffic arrives -need I say more?

Then, there is the overeating…

Clearly, nobody is forcing you to try everything, then again, nobody is wiring your mouth shut so that you can stop yourself.

And what about the DANCING circles?

The squish is on!

The breathing space is limited! And the stilettos are lethal!

I honestly believe I have holes not just between my toes, but on them, from the inadvertent attacks I’ve suffered on the dance floor.

Only the bride is safe to dance with cause these days she is wearing sneakers.

Of course they are about 10 feet  high so you may not be able to reach her!

And you know this is a one and done purchase for her. She’s definitely not using those sneakers for tennis after her big night.

Oh -and did I forget to mention lechaims and engagement parties? There’s no getting to the wedding phase without them.

There goes our Sundays. And weeknights.

June, July, August and September, all are heavy simcha months -yay and yich, if you know what I mean.

So, we should really appreciate this time right now of a break. Maybe we look scruffy without a haircut or a shave or feel a little less up beat  without music.

But we definitely have some down time to just be. Let’s embrace it. Because, when the restrictions are lifted the onslaught begins. And we’ll be pining for a bit of Sephira rest and relaxation.
