I grew up with this being a song that people sang together.
Now it’s the way people actually get together, no song necessary!
Classes -zoom
Meetings -zoom
Bar mitzvahs – zoom
Even, Weddings-zoom
Sure, that’s not new when it comes to weddings. We use to zoom all the time for them? Zoom here zoom there! Zoom to pick out a hall, a dress, a wig! But now it’s just zoom to show up!
“June is busting out all over”!
That’s another song. I think from the show Oklahoma.
But June use to be a repressed month. Hardly able to bust out.
Now, look at June this year. We kind of got our Sundays back. No events to drive to. When it comes to graduations, bar mitzvahs, weddings -Just show your face on a computer and you’re good!
And take note of this -men are not sitting inside watching sports either.
So, June is busting out all over!
Families actually have more ‘family time’. People are more present than ever!
The thing is though……maybe a little too present?! Parents may be a somewhat ready for a drop of space. Maybe, even praying a bit that day camps keep working out cause as much as they claim their kids need it maybe someone else does to!
Yes, it’s delicious to be together 24/7, in theory. But the reality is every adult needs to get a little time for themselves and yes, every kid needs some time for peer bonding too.
Hey it might be interesting to take a little peak at what day camp may look like for kids this year?
*Counselor – Okay you are captain, choose a team.
Camper – Well who am I allowed to choose from?
Well the 4 people you are allowed to be with.
Okay I choose them.
And who are our opponents?
The four people you are not allowed to be with.
Well, that was easy!!!
*Camper- Hey what are they serving for lunch today?
Well what did you bring?
A sandwich and juice box!
You got it!
Well that was easy!
*Camper -Do I need to bring anything special for trip
day?
Counselor- No way!
Wow great!
Where are we going?
Nowhere!
Wow that was hard!
So camp will definitely be simplified, and a bit different.
But the good news is keeping your kids busy will hopefully be someone else’s problem- at least for a while.
So-Let’s all zoom into action and appreciate the last few days of this June. Because, who knows what July may look like.
I’m betting it will be awesome! Why not?
In most cases, we can make it that way- As long as we use our gift of seeing everything from more than one angle. And if we haven’t perfected that gift, maybe it would be good for us to try and zoom in a little differently!
